Buccal massage, also called buccal therapy, is a specialised form of remedial massage that works on the muscles of the jaw and face from both outside and inside the mouth. "Buccal" refers to the cheek. Your practitioner wears gloves and uses gentle, controlled pressure on the inner cheek and around the jaw, combined with external techniques. This lets them reach muscles such as the masseter and the medial and lateral pterygoids, which are hard to treat from the outside alone.
These are the muscles you use to chew, speak and clench. When they become tight or overworked, they can contribute to jaw pain, restricted movement and tension that spreads into the face, head and neck. Buccal massage targets that tension directly.
